As per the Tolkien Society, March 25th is celebrated as Tolkien Reading Day.
Like Bloomsday is devoted to Joyce, Tolkien Reading Day is a day when fans of Tolkien gather informally and read from The Lord of the Rings or other Tolkien writings.
Why today? Why March 25th? Per the chronology in The Lord of the Rings, March 25th is the day that Barad-Dur fell and Sauron was defeated. It’s actually off by a week and a half — our calendar doesn’t match the Shire calendar — but it’s close enough. 😉
So, Tolkien-lovers! Get together with friends and fellow travelers on the road to Middle-Earth, and read aloud your favorite passages.
Make this a Tolkien Reading Day to remember. 🙂
