An Afternoon Walk

I took a brief walk this afternoon.

An urgent project — a “red ball,” to use the parlance of Homicide: Life on the Streets — landed on my (virtual) desk this morning. After three hours on the project, I had a video conference call, and after that another hour of work on the red ball.

By early afternoon, before I even started on the text I needed to write today, I needed to go outside to stretch the legs and clear the mind.

Fortunately, the cloud action over Yoe was strong today.

What really stood out was how there was a high layer of wispy clouds above the lower puffy clouds.

Looking toward the fire watch tower near Windsor

After I finished a loop around the neighborhood, I was curious to see what had happened with the newspaper box at at the complex’s mailboxes for, when I got home from work on Wednesday, I was greeted by this sight:

The York Daily-Record newspaper box and street light, utterly annihilated.

The York Daily-Record newspaper box and street light were utterly annihilated.

One the neighbors was standing outside laughing. She gave the story. In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, she and some other neighbors were awoken by a loud bang. Someone struck the mailbox and lamppost and kept on going.

Nearly eighteen hours after the hit-and-run, the mailbox and light were still like this.

Would it have been cleaned up today? Surely, surely.

Or…. you can throw a cone in the middle of the mess, which is just as good.
