Christmas on Mars

This version of “Silent Night” performed on the theremin is magnificent. It also puts 1950s sci-fi B-movies in mind — not unlike Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, a long-time holiday favorite of mine — and so I wrote a new verse for “Silent Night”…

Silent night, holy night.
Mars attacks with laser light.
Saucers flying through the nightime sky.
Cities crumbling as they fly by.
Flee for your lives from the Martians!
Flee from the Martians!

It doesn’t exactly fit, but that’s the genius of it! The standard English lyrics of “Silent Night” don’t exactly fit, either. Some words you have to stretch. Others you have to squeeze.

Still, it’s a fun little verse. When you and your friends go Christmas carolling… sometime in 2021 or 2022, thanks to COVID… toss in this verse and see if anyone notices!

Flee from the Martians!
