Hope Christmas Gets You To Me

I slept poorly last night. For some reason, I couldn’t get comfortable. I tossed. I turned. I had a headache; migraine or dehydration, I couldn’t tell. I yanked the sheets off the bed and, at one point, tossed off blankets, later having to recover them because I was cold.

I know it’s a bad idea to check one’s phone in the middle of the night, but I couldn’t sleep, I’d taken Tylenol to try and calm the headache, so what was the harm?

I saw this Tweet.

An intriguing — if not entirely helpful! — bit of information. The tweet could have linked, for example, the band’s Twitter handle, since someone seeing it on Twitter might want that. Or a link to the song — “Hope Christmas Gets You to Me” — which “has become an unexpected success.”

Google helped me there.

It’s quite nice, isn’t it? A Christmas song for these COVID-afflicted times, a song about human connection in a time when we have to be apart.

The song’s available on Bandcamp for a very reasonable buck fifty, and the instrumental backing track is available separately as a “name your price” EP. (I kicked in money for that.) The instrumental is nice to listen to on its own.

Lapwing. Two school teacher friends in Glasgow. I’ll have to remember that.
