Fifteen years ago I knew a woman named Rachel.
She was pretty. She wasn't especially tall. She had very straight and very black hair. Her features were somewhat elfen. I sometimes thought that if you slapped a pair of pointed ear appliances on her, she'd have made a decent Vulcan out of the box.
She introduced me one day to an unusual — and unlikely — pizza topping.
M&Ms.
Rachel was a vegetarian. That limited her pizza topping choices. So she would order a cheese pizza, and then dump a bag of M&Ms on top of the cheese.
I have no idea how she made this discovery. I have to admit that I turned my nose up the first time she suggested I give this a try.
But curiosity got the best of me. And I discovered that, yes, M&Ms do work surprisingly well on top of pizza. The hard shell melts just enough to get soft, and the mixture of pizza sauce, cheese, and chocolate works wonders on the taste buds.
M&M pizza is not my favorite pizza. No, that honor goes to Ham and Pineapple. But I will gladly put M&Ms on pizza given the chance.
