On Apocalyptic Thinking

People are preparing for the Apocalypse.

For instance, there are Christians who believe the Rapture will happen tomorrow. Or the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta offered advice for surviving the zombie apocalypse. NASA is even prepared for Viking raids. I’m sure there are pagans who are anxiously awaiting Ragnarok, and some Reformed Gallifreyists may be anticipating the opening of Pandoricas and Untempered Schisms.

But let’s keep things in perspective.

The thing we have to watch out for is Morgoth breaking open the Doors of Night. So long as that doesn’t happen, which would fulfill the Second Prophecy of Mandos, the raising of the armies of the dead and the final battle of Dagor Dagorath won’t happen, and the apocalypse will pass us by. :h2g2:
