Sunday evening my parents and I took my grandmother to her favorite restaurant for dinner, Bullock’s. It’s a family restaurant out near Westminster.<\/p>\n
The place has a buffet. The buffet table is a covered wagon. It uses a yellow fluorescent tube. Food looks… well, not like food… under the yellow light.<\/p>\n
There’s a model train that runs in the rafters.<\/p>\n
Frankly, I’ve never really liked it. Never.<\/p>\n
Why? There’s nothing there I really want<\/i> to eat. Nothing.<\/p>\n
I ordered the roast beef platter. It’s generally safe.<\/p>\n
Until I woke up Monday morning with the worst damn case of heartburn.<\/p>\n
Oh, my stomach was trying to kill me.<\/p>\n
And I couldn’t find antacid tablets.<\/p>\n
Morning coffee settled my stomach somewhat, but all through yesterday morning I could feel the heartburn returning. On my lunch break I walked to the Eckard’s Drugs and bought a bottle of antacid tablets. I swallowed five or six. Not at all once. In pairs. About half an hour apart. I wasn’t in pain any more.<\/p>\n
In the evening, the heartburn came back. More antacid tablets.<\/p>\n
It’s now thirty-six hours since Bullock’s. My stomach still<\/i> hates the Bullock’s dinner.<\/p>\n
Blech. More antacid tablets.<\/p>\n
Note to self. Avoid Bullock’s in the future. It’s a good rule anyway<\/i>, but if it’s going to wreck my stomach like this<\/i>… :\/<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
