{"id":1270,"date":"2007-08-13T07:17:21","date_gmt":"2007-08-13T11:17:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.net\/?p=1270"},"modified":"2007-08-13T07:17:21","modified_gmt":"2007-08-13T11:17:21","slug":"on-halo-3-pre-orders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/?p=1270","title":{"rendered":"On Halo 3 Pre-Orders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m <i>so<\/i> glad I don&#8217;t have to deal with this anymore &mdash; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theregister.co.uk\/2007\/08\/13\/halo_3_million_preorders\/\"><i>Halo 3<\/i> has reached over a million pre-orders in North America<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Which means, knowing the video game industry and who actually <i>does<\/i> pre-orders, that it&#8217;s <i>entirely<\/i> EB Games and GameStop.<\/p>\n<p>Which means, knowing GameStop, that a solid third of the pre-orders are bogus.  That, unfortunately, is their <i>modus operandi<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>And it&#8217;s <i>not<\/i> like copies of <i>Halo 3<\/i> are going to be difficult to find at retail.  Pre-ordering the game &mdash; unless you desperately want the super-spiffy edition &mdash; isn&#8217;t going to be a necessity.<\/p>\n<p>Will <i>Halo 3<\/i> be huge?  No doubt, no doubt.  I can&#8217;t wait to see the marketing synergy Microsoft has for the title.  But the need to pre-order?
