A few days ago I posted a television meme<\/a>; I’d name off seven television series, and my readers could guess who my favorite characters were from those series.<\/p>\n

Well, that didn’t generate a lot of response. :p<\/p>\n

The five that weren’t guessed:<\/p>\n

  1. Animaniacs<\/b>
    This one was mildly tricksey. It’s Pinky, of Pinky & the Brain<\/i> fame. I have to admire the dogged randomness of Pinky. I have to admire the writers who could come up with the truly random nonsense Pinky could say. I couldn’t write dialogue for Pinky. \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n
  2. Father Ted<\/b>
    Father Dougal Maguire. From babbling on television about a “spider-baby” to convincing a cardinal to become a hippie atheist to wrecking a funeral by getting the hearse to explode, Father Dougal was whole lots of awesome. Also, he reminds me of Pinky; I’ve sometimes described Father Ted<\/i> as “Pinky & the Brain<\/i> with priests.” If you’re familiar with both shows, you’ll know exactly<\/i> what I mean. \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n
  3. Homicide<\/b>
    Detective Meldrick Lewis.
    Meldrick Lewis was just the normal guy on the force, with a snarky demeanor and a penchant for not suffering fools gladly.<\/li>\n
  4. South Park<\/b>
    The Mole.
    As I said to readers, there are some tricksey things here. I loved<\/i> The Mole in South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut<\/i>. From his mother saying he had been grounded because “he said naughty things about God,” to The Mole’s dying words, “Fuck you, God, you fucking pussy,” I had to admire the audacity of Matt Stone and Trey Parker for including a militant atheist character in the South Park<\/i>-verse.<\/li>\n
  5. Star Trek: Voyager<\/b>
    Chakotay, believe it or not, but it’s more for the character’s untapped potential than for what the series actually did<\/i> with the character. First season Chakotay was really interesting guy, with all sorts of inner turmoil. And then the series seemed to forget he existed. I always liked Robert Beltran’s performance.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    So, there you have it. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

    And to some random Google searcher out there, I have my doubts, actually, that LEGO James Bond would work. I mean, yes, you could<\/i> build all sorts of impregnable fortresses with LEGO, and matching unisex jumpsuits are easily done in LEGO, but I don’t think you actually need a special LEGO series to create your own brick James Bond adventures.<\/p>\n

    Now, give me LEGO Doctor Who<\/i>, and I’ll be happy forever<\/i>. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
