{"id":1856,"date":"2008-06-10T14:11:06","date_gmt":"2008-06-10T19:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.net\/?p=1856"},"modified":"2008-06-10T14:11:06","modified_gmt":"2008-06-10T19:11:06","slug":"on-ice-cream-sandwiches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/?p=1856","title":{"rendered":"On Ice Cream Sandwiches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My grandmother ate my ice cream sandwiches.<\/p>\n<p>Had she eaten them and thrown the wrappers away, I&#8217;d have been annoyed, but it wouldn&#8217;t have been a tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>Had she eaten them and left the wrappers on the counter, I&#8217;d have been annoyed, but I&#8217;d have been okay.<\/p>\n<p>Had she eaten them <i>partially<\/i>, and frozen what she didn&#8217;t eat, I&#8217;d have been upset, but that would have been salvagable.  I&#8217;d just have finished them off.<\/p>\n<p>But instead, she took an ice cream sandwich from the freezer.  Unwrapped it.  Took a bite.  Set it down on the counter.  And forgot about it.  Whereupon it melted and made a giant mess.<\/p>\n<p>And then she did this <i>again<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Puddles of ice cream sandwiches <i>weren&#8217;t<\/i> what I wanted to find in the kitchen this morning.<\/p>\n<p>There was one left in the freezer.  I ate it for breakfast.  I didn&#8217;t want a tragic fate &mdash; like melting, unloved, on the kitchen counter &mdash; to befall an ice cream sandwich &mdash; banana split flavor, no less &mdash; that had done nothing to deserve it.<\/p>\n<p>It was the only right thing to do.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll mourn for its siblings.<\/p>\n<p>Those ice cream sandwiches!  The tragedy!<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know that I&#8217;ll ever be the same again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My grandmother ate my ice cream sandwiches.
