{"id":2150,"date":"2009-01-07T08:00:57","date_gmt":"2009-01-07T13:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.net\/?p=2150"},"modified":"2009-01-07T08:00:57","modified_gmt":"2009-01-07T13:00:57","slug":"on-the-feast-day-of-st-cedd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/?p=2150","title":{"rendered":"On the Feast Day of St. Cedd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, the seventh of January, is celebrated in the Catholic Church as the feast day of <a href='http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/St._Cedd'>Saint Cedd<\/a>, who was built a number of monasteries and spread the Christian faith throughout Mercia and Essex in the seventh century.<\/p>\n<p>(Curiously, Cedd&#8217;s feast day is <i>also<\/i> celebrated on October 26th.)<\/p>\n<p>Cedd, of course, is the namesake for <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/St._Cedd's_College,_Cambridge\">St. Cedd&#8217;s College, Cambridge<\/a>, where <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Professor_Chronotis\">Professor Chronotis<\/a> famously kept rooms for several decades.  Dirk Gently, himself a detective of some note, described Cedd as &#8220;one of the duller Northumbrian saints.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I have no real plans for the feast day of St. Cedd; I&#8217;m not Catholic, and I imagine, given Cedd&#8217;s lack of notoriety, that no one commemorates Cedd anymore.<\/p>\n<p>Certainly old Cedd is worth a visit to the pub.
