{"id":2221,"date":"2009-03-31T06:44:55","date_gmt":"2009-03-31T11:44:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.net\/?p=2221"},"modified":"2009-03-31T06:44:55","modified_gmt":"2009-03-31T11:44:55","slug":"on-the-uses-of-sitar-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/?p=2221","title":{"rendered":"On the Uses of Sitar Music"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I find myself completely taken with sitar music this morning.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m trying to wake up, and the coffee isn&#8217;t <i>quite<\/i> doing it for me.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, coffee doesn&#8217;t work <i>instantly<\/i>.  I have to give it more time.<\/p>\n<p>So, I&#8217;m adding some sitar music into the mix.  The sitar has a tangy sound, like a stab of color.  That will cut through the mental fog this bright morning, surely!<\/p>\n<p>My collection of sitar music is not impressive, however.  It&#8217;s limited entirely to George Harrison&#8217;s oeuvre, actually.<\/p>\n<p>So I&#8217;m listening to the early takes of &#8220;Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown),&#8221; where Harrison&#8217;s sitar work was a little more&#8230; <i>overwhelming<\/i> than the finished track.<\/p>\n<p>Seriously, in the first take, Harrison played the sitar <i>everywhere<\/i>, filling every sonic crevice.  He dialed that by the fourth take of the song, and that gave us the beautiful &mdash; and somewhat malicious &mdash; song that we all know and love.<\/p>\n<p>Okay, that <i>I<\/i> love.  I don&#8217;t know about the rest of you all. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh.<br \/>\nI told her I didn&#8217;t and crawled off to sleep in the bath.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I could listen to <i>The Concert for Bangladesh<\/i> or <i>The Concert for George<\/i> for more sitar goodness.  Even <i>Wonderwall Music<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Or I may just fix another cup of coffee.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I find myself completely taken with sitar music this morning.
