I’ve seen this on two blogs recently, such as James Bow<\/a>‘s–take a short story and run it through MS Word’s Auto Summary feature.<\/p>\n

I’ve taken “Memorial Day,” an entry I wrote for Pocket’s Strange New Worlds<\/i> VI contest, and condensed its 7500 word length to under a hundred:<\/p>\n

\n“Thanks.”<\/p>\n

“Claire Keefe.”<\/p>\n

“Jake Sisko.” Claire nodded.<\/p>\n

“You were in the War?”<\/p>\n

Claire turned and looked. “Chris Bledsoe, my fianc\u9ba6quot;<\/p>\n

Claire nodded.<\/p>\n

“Admiral Ross.”<\/p>\n

“Thank you, Admiral.”<\/p>\n

Ross nodded. Ross asked. Ross nodded.<\/p>\n

“Chris Bledsoe.”<\/p>\n

“Yes, Admiral.”<\/p>\n

“Chris Bledsoe?”<\/p>\n

“The Jem’Hadar attacked both ships.”<\/p>\n

Chris nodded. Chris ignored me. Chris shrugged. Chris paused again. “Sard’yck was dead.”<\/p>\n

Chris’ file indicated that Sard’yck died in the attack on the sensor array. <\/p>\n

Chris nodded. Chris shrugged. <\/p>\n

“Chris’s story makes a great lead. Chris was a hero. Losing his arm took playing baseball away from him.”\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
