I’ll be honest. I’ve not<\/i> been looking forward to Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes<\/i> film. The cast of Robert Downey, Jr. as Holmes made no sense to me. The early set photos didn’t instill any confidence in me, and while I was intrigued by the casting of Jude Law as Dr. Watson, I was iffy.<\/p>\n
Then I read an article about the film<\/a>. Downey showed about twenty minutes of footage at a trade show. And he said that he wanted to do Holmes as a thinking man’s action hero.<\/p>\n My ears perked up.<\/p>\n Holmes isn’t a coldly rational machine, though we think of him that way. Holmes has his moments of passion, he’s prone to outbursts and fisticuffs.<\/p>\n I’m willing to give Downey the benefit of the doubt. If he’s bringing that side of Holmes to the screen, I’ll be mightily intrigued.<\/p>\n Though to be honest, I’m willing to forgive a lot<\/i> in a Sherlock Holmes actor. Heck, I liked Matt Frewer’s Holmes. Richard Roxbrough, however, was godawful.<\/p>\n And Downey, of course, is a better actor than Frewer or Roxbrough. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n We’ll see in December, won’t we?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I’ll be honest.
