Sometimes it can even come in handy, like when a thread today on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trekbbs.com\/ubb\/Forum15\/HTML\/006232.html\">TrekBBS<\/a> asked about Walter Koenig&#8217;s proposed story for <b>Star Trek VI<\/b>.  I&#8217;m not sure where I heard or read about Koenig&#8217;s story, or how I even knew the title.  Perhaps I&#8217;ve <i>always<\/i> known it was entitled &#8220;In Flanders&#8217; Fields,&#8221; doubtless after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geocities.com\/~worldwar1\/mccrae.html\">John McCrae<\/a>&#8216;s famous World War I poem.<\/p>\n<p>In any case, Google came to the rescue and turned up <a href=\"http:\/\/groups.google.com\/groups?hl=en&#038;lr=&#038;ie=UTF-8&#038;selm=1991Mar14.225942.26156%40ncsu.edu&#038;rnum=1\">this<\/a> summary of the story.  In retrospect it&#8217;s easy to see why Paramount wouldn&#8217;t sanction this story; for a film that Paramount wanted to celebrate <i>Trek<\/i>&#8216;s 25th anniversary the story ends on a downbeat and morbid note and, while dramatic, the film would probably have appealed to only hardcore <i>Trek<\/i> fans and not have had longevity at the box office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have a long memory.
