I’ve lost and\/or misplaced two things on my computer in the past forty-eight hours. Or rather, I’ve discovered<\/i> the two missing things in the past forty-eight hours.<\/p>\n
One.<\/b> The macro I coded Friday night? I had it saved in a text file, and in cleaning off my desktop yesterday I accidentally deleted it. And since I emptied my recycle bin, I can’t get it back.<\/p>\n
Fortunately, it was only about fifteen minutes to recode. And I fixed a problem that I needed to fix (basically, I needed to convert one column from general numbers into currency) in so doing. And I added a few new bells and whistles (like fixing some names) that I was going to add. It’s now a better piece of code, a more complete piece of code. Still no documentation for it, but that’s not high on my list of priorities.<\/p>\n
I really do<\/i> need to document all the stuff that I do, how my macros work and why they do the things that they do. One of these days…<\/p>\n
Two.<\/b> I cannot find chapter three of “THOD<\/a>.” I wrote a little bit about it here<\/a>; it’s set in the mid-1980s. I had to do some… odd<\/i> research for it, too.<\/p>\n I suspect it’s on my other flash drive, which I don’t have here with me. But what if it’s not<\/i> there?<\/p>\n I do have here, on my desk, my handwritten opening to the chapter. It’s rough and sketchy, and I’m going to retype that today.<\/p>\n It had better<\/i> be on my flash drive.<\/p>\n On the plus side, in looking for the handwritten pages of chapter three, I realized that the revised dialogue for the first chapter I never incorporated into that document. (It was something I wrote out one morning on the subway, and I ended up leaving it on my clipboard.)<\/p>\n Write away, then!
