I had to coin a word today.<\/p>\n
“Hyper-south.”<\/p>\n
I was writing some dialogue. Two characters were talking about a situation that had gone horribly wrong. “It went south,” as one might say.<\/p>\n
But then the situation, which really couldn’t or shouldn’t have gotten any worse, did<\/i>.<\/p>\n
Saying it went “further south” didn’t work. It was so<\/i> much worse than that.<\/p>\n
So, the character, being a scientific, though puckish, sort, said the situation “went hyper-south. Four-dimensional. Like a hypercube. Hyper-south.”<\/p>\n
Sometimes, you don’t know quite<\/i> what is going to come out when you start writing.<\/p>\n
“Hyper-south.”<\/p>\n
