I’ve hit a minor lull in my day, so I’m reading comics.<\/p>\n
Specifically, I’m reading Phonogram: The Singles Club<\/i> #4.<\/p>\n
As long-time readers know, I’ve raved about Phonogram<\/i> before<\/a>; it’s a cool comic about the power of music and magic. The Singles Club<\/i>, the second series, takes place on a single night in a single club, Never on a Sunday, and shows the events that happen there from several different perspectives.<\/p>\n The fourth issue is about the deejays at Never on a Sunday, Seth Bingo and Silent Girl.<\/p>\n There’s a piece of dialogue that just smacked<\/i> me upside the face: “If you dance when we play Annie, I promise, cross my heart, never-ever-ever<\/i> lie to you, that we’ll play a Fall Out Boy record.”<\/p>\n The reason this smacked me?<\/p>\n I had to listen to some Fall Out Boy recently.<\/p>\n No, really. Honest. It was work-related.<\/p>\n I didn’t know anything about Fall Out Boy, except that I saw a Cubs game on WGN last year where they sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch.<\/p>\n So, this Fall Out Boy listen. Work-related, as I said.<\/p>\n I had to scrub my brain out afterwards of its godawful-wretchedness.<\/p>\n Seriously. People listen<\/i> to that?<\/p>\n I note, with some amusement, that Fall Out Boy doesn’t even merit an annotation at the end of issue #4. \ud83d\ude06<\/p>\n Okay, back to the comics.
