{"id":2598,"date":"2009-08-27T15:11:00","date_gmt":"2009-08-27T20:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.net\/?p=2598"},"modified":"2009-08-27T15:11:00","modified_gmt":"2009-08-27T20:11:00","slug":"on-turmoil-in-treklit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/?p=2598","title":{"rendered":"On Turmoil in TrekLit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In light of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/2009\/08\/another-trek-editor-gets-the-ax\/\">editor Margaret Clark&#8217;s firing at Pocket Books earlier this week<\/a>, my friend Jon Polk <a href=\"http:\/\/jonpolk.blogspot.com\/2009\/08\/state-of-star-trek-literature.html\">mused on the state of <i>Star Trek<\/i> literature today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jon&#8217;s is a contrarian viewpoint, and, as one might assume from <a href=\"http:\/\/unreality-sf.net\/features\/stxi.html\">my recent participation in an round-table discussion<\/a> about the new <i>Star Trek<\/i> film and its effects on <i>Trek<\/i>lit, I don&#8217;t entirely disagree with Jon&#8217;s conclusions.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s too early to say what effect Margaret&#8217;s departure will have on <i>Star Trek<\/i> fiction.  It will continue into 2010 and beyond, of that there&#8217;s no doubt.  The question is one of paths to follow, and we won&#8217;t know that for many months to come.<\/p>\n<p>That said, I am sorry that Margaret lost her job.  She&#8217;s been involved with <i>Star Trek<\/i> for a <i>very<\/i> long time.
