The Essay, Religion in the North, Norse Mythology: Karl Seigfried<\/a> – An interesting personal essay on the continuing emotional pull of Norse mythology, a millennium after Scandinavia was Christianized.<\/span> BBC Radio 3<\/em><\/p>\n The 1917 explosion in Halifax that reverberated in Boston<\/a> – I was aware of the Halifax Explosion — an accident during World War I (December 1917, specifically) that pretty much leveled Halifax in Nova Scotia — but I wasn’t aware of the details (the property damage, the death toll), nor was I aware of the recovery effort that was spearheaded by the city of Boston.<\/span> PRI’s The World<\/em><\/p>\n Selling Out the Newspaper Comic Strip<\/a> – This fascinating piece contrasts the careers of Charles Schulz and Bill Watterson, placing their comic strips (Peanuts<\/i> and Calvin and Hobbes<\/i>, respectively) in the context of publishing environments of the times, charting their separate battles against their syndicates, and their contrasting views on licensing.<\/span> Los Angeles Review of Books<\/em><\/p>\n There was a Facebook post as well that discussed an article in The Atlantic<\/i>.
