Thankfully, NASA produced this video to commemorate the 40th-anniversary of the joint American-Soviet space mission, the ASTP.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hM25uYAQWeo\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>For this space nerd, seeing Deke Slayton and Alexei Leonov in space together is downright magical.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes I think about a world where we didn&#8217;t abandon Apollo and the ASTP led to more joint missions, such as rescuing Skylab or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/2012\/03\/skylab-salyut-space-laboratory-1972\/\">Apollo missions to the Salyut stations<\/a>.  Perhaps in this world, Mir was built with American cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>But, that&#8217;s just in dreams.
