Ie., 3.141592653589793.  The circumference of a circle divided by its diameter.  &pi;.<\/p>\n<p>Fifteen digits of &pi; is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpl.nasa.gov\/edu\/news\/2016\/3\/16\/how-many-decimals-of-pi-do-we-really-need\/\">all NASA needs for its interplanetary missions<\/a>.  A calculation of the circumference of a circle with a diameter the distance of the <i>Voyager 1<\/i> probe, 12 1\/2 billion miles from earth, would be off by an inch and a half.<\/p>\n<p>Forty digits of &pi; are all you need to accurately calculate the size of the universe to the width of a hydrogen atom.<\/p>\n<p>No, I&#8217;ve never eaten pie for Pi Day.  I understand why people do &mdash; Pie and &pi; &mdash; but that just seems silly.
