{"id":31151,"date":"2018-02-01T20:55:39","date_gmt":"2018-02-02T01:55:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/?p=31151"},"modified":"2018-02-01T20:55:39","modified_gmt":"2018-02-02T01:55:39","slug":"the-wisdom-of-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/?p=31151","title":{"rendered":"The Wisdom of Children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Probably the most profound thing I&#8217;ve read today, if not this year.<\/p>\n<p>A pediatrician in South Africa, Alastair McAlpine, who works with terminally ill children, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/health-42909326?ocid=socialflow_twitter\">asked them what was important to them, what they liked doing, and what they&#8217;ll miss when they&#8217;re gone<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The children, aged four to nine, talked about their pets and how they&#8217;re worried about their parents and how they know the people who really care about them.<\/p>\n<p>The doctor summed up his conversations with the children thusly:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Take home message:<br \/>Be kind. Read more books. Spend time with your family. Crack jokes. Go to the beach. Hug your dog. Tell that special person you love them.<\/p>\n<p>These are the things these kids wished they could&#39;ve done more.
