{"id":32035,"date":"2019-06-17T10:33:17","date_gmt":"2019-06-17T15:33:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/?p=32035"},"modified":"2019-06-17T10:33:17","modified_gmt":"2019-06-17T15:33:17","slug":"anne-of-green-gables-in-gaelic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/?p=32035","title":{"rendered":"Anne of Green Gables, in Gaelic"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saturday morning, while browsing Facebook, I found an interested an unexpected article &#8212; <a style=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/prince-edward-island\/pei-anne-of-green-gables-gaelic-1.5165430?fbclid=IwAR0p9nhJFf_sUoIKVreMpyfYHJk2ExL79TtctQmDabMZsYv8E7AFeoLSg9I\">Lucy Maud Montgomery&#8217;s <em>Anne of Green Gables<\/em> is being translated into Scots Gaelic<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Canadian_Gaelic\">Canadian dialect of Gaelic<\/a> was spoken on Prince Edward Island, though in declining numbers, at the time Montgomery&#8217;s novels were set, and I did not know that Montgomery herself had married a Gaelic speaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bradanpress.com\">Bradan Press<\/a> is running <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/bradanpress\/anna-ruadh\">a Kickstarter to fund the translation and publication of <\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/bradanpress\/anna-ruadh\">Anna Ruadh<\/a><\/em>, the Gaelic translation, and though I don&#8217;t speak Gaelic (despite efforts at working through some podcasts) I made a pledge of support for a hardcover edition of the book.
