It also puts 1950s sci-fi B-movies in mind &#8212; not unlike <em>Santa Claus Conquers the Martians<\/em>, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/?p=938\" class=\"ek-link\">long-time holiday favorite of mine<\/a> &#8212; and so I wrote a new verse for &#8220;Silent Night&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Silent night, holy night.<\/em><br><em>Mars attacks with laser light.<\/em><br><em>Saucers flying through the nightime sky.<\/em><br><em>Cities crumbling as they fly by.<\/em><br><em>Flee for your lives from the Martians!<\/em><br><em>Flee from the Martians!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It doesn&#8217;t <em>exactly<\/em> fit, but that&#8217;s the genius of it!  The standard English lyrics of &#8220;Silent Night&#8221; don&#8217;t exactly fit, either.  Some words you have to stretch.  Others you have to squeeze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still, it&#8217;s a fun little verse.  When you and your friends go Christmas carolling&#8230; sometime in 2021 or 2022, thanks to COVID&#8230; toss in this verse and see if anyone notices!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flee from the Martians!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This version of &#8220;Silent Night&#8221; performed on the theremin is magnificent.
