{"id":32981,"date":"2021-01-31T20:51:28","date_gmt":"2021-02-01T01:51:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/?p=32981"},"modified":"2021-01-31T20:51:28","modified_gmt":"2021-02-01T01:51:28","slug":"a-song-that-feels-like-warm-summer-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/?p=32981","title":{"rendered":"A Song That Feels Like Warm Summer Days"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am of an age where, when I hear the name Stan Getz, the famous jazz saxophonist, I think immediately of the exchange in <i>That Thing You Do!<\/i> in which while the Wonders are interviewed at KJZZ, a jazz radio station in southern California, Skitch Patterson begins to talk excitedly about the music that really inspires him &#8212; &#8220;Stan Getz, anything he did on the Verve label.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stan Getz came to mind this afternoon when WDCB, Chicago&#8217;s jazz radio station, played Getz and Astrud Gilberto&#8217;s 1960s classic, &#8220;The Girl from Ipanema,&#8221; a song so delightfully perfect that I can&#8217;t help but feel happy when hearing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Naturally, I wanted to hear it again, so I went looking for it on YouTube. And, besides the official music video for the song, which appears to have been made only last year, I found this charming cover by <a href=\"https:\/\/elisetrouw.com\">Elise Trouw<\/a>, whom I&#8217;m not familiar with, but I see that, in the five years this has been on the Tubes of You, it&#8217;s been watched eight and a half million times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Girl from Ipanema - Stan Getz &amp; Astrud Gilberto (cover by Elise)\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/09gJX0Cc6p0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yeah, that&#8217;s just charming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The official video of the Getz\/Gilberto video is charming in an entirely different way, looking like a cartoon that might have been made in 1965.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Stan Getz feat.
