It was loud in my &#8220;office,&#8221; it was even louder outside.  I had no idea what they were doing, but it sounded something like a hole was being drilled to the center of the Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It wasn&#8217;t until I came home from Virginia last Sunday that I was able to see what the ruckus had been all about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Driving down Oak Road, there was a new metal tower next to the water tower behind my complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A few days later, the tower was topped by electronic equipment, and then I noticed there was not one tower but two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"720\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/20210919_134226.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33358\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tower to the east is the larger and more substantial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Obviously, it is Barad-dur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-fullwidth\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"720\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/20210919_154015-1200x720.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33359\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To the east, Isengard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Release the river!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seriously, though, I&#8217;m reminded more of <em>The War of the Worlds<\/em>.  With the water tower, it looks like a Martian war party, and I half expect the black smoke, the heat ray, and the red weed at any moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Ulla!<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The week of Labor Day, there was an industrial ruckus in my neighborhood.
