{"id":337,"date":"2005-03-05T23:09:14","date_gmt":"2005-03-06T04:09:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.net\/?p=337"},"modified":"2005-03-05T23:09:14","modified_gmt":"2005-03-06T04:09:14","slug":"more-on-kentucky-zombies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/?p=337","title":{"rendered":"More on Kentucky Zombies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.splc.org\/newsflash.asp?id=973&#038;year=\">The Student Press Law Center<\/a> provides more information on William Poole, the Kentucky high school student charged with making &#8220;terroristic threats&#8221;&#8211;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>George Rogers Clark High School student William Poole, 18, was arrested and detained after his grandparents found materials he authored and called police, said Clark High principal John Atkins.<\/p>\n<p>[SNIP]<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The boy&#8217;s version was that he was writing a story about zombies and it was for a portfolio entry that was going to be turned in at school,&#8221; Atkins said. &#8220;The teachers aren&#8217;t aware of any kind of project like that. The word &#8216;zombies&#8217; was not mentioned in the writings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>[SNIP]<\/p>\n<p>Atkins said law enforcement agents showed him the writings, which resembled &#8220;notes and a plan. &#8230; It sounded to be kind of an advertisement or recruiting to meet a goal, and a goal was stated which was very negative about the school.&#8221;<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While the new information provided is valuable to those following the case, like myself, as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/users\/bill_leisner\/68450.html\">Bill Leisner<\/a> points out on his LiveJournal the information Atkins provides isn&#8217;t a solid refutation of Poole&#8217;s assertion that the writings found were, in fact, part of a short story about zombies overrunning a high school.  Rather than say &#8220;There was no writing project,&#8221; Atkins says, &#8220;The teachers <i>aren&#8217;t aware<\/i>&#8221; of a writing project.  Rather than say &#8220;It was a plan,&#8221; Atkins says, &#8220;It <i>sounded to be<\/i>&#8221; a plan.  Where Atkins could provide clarity, instead he muddies the waters even more.<\/p>\n<p>Quite frankly, I don&#8217;t know what to think.  I wrote on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adammessinger.com\/2005\/03\/01\/ky-high-school-zombie-threat#comments\">another blog<\/a> a few days ago, &#8220;The trouble is, I find the idea of a student being arrested for writing a story about zombies to be completely credible. It sounds fantastic. It sounds impossible.
