Shea Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>Set aside the fact that it&#8217;s a hideous Hawaiian shirt &#8212; Facebook thinks I&#8217;m interested in hideous Hawaiian shirts &#8212; the image of Shea Stadium <i>pains<\/i> me.<\/p>\n<p>The Mets played in the Polo Grounds in Manhattan in 1962.<\/p>\n<p>Shea, built on the Valley of Ashes so memorably described in Fitzgerald&#8217;s <i>The Great Gatsby<\/i>, didn&#8217;t open until <i>1964<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Polo Grounds forever!  Shea Stadium never!<\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>In other news, we edge ever closer to Denmark invoking NATO Article V against one of its own NATO allies, the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Denmark is &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/190698\/denmark-crisis-trump-phone-call-greenland-prime-minister-fredericksen\">in crisis mode<\/a>&#8221; following a phone call between convicted felon Donald Trump and Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in which Trump was &#8220;aggressive and confrontational&#8221; about Greenland, threatening tariffs against Denmark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I keep quoting Fred Dalton Thompson&#8217;s Admiral in <em>The Hunt for Red October<\/em>: &#8220;This business will get out of control. It will get out of control, and we&#8217;ll be lucky to live through it.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s end this on a happy note.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some more ugly baseball Hawaiian shirts Facebook thinks I want.  I do not.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"885\" height=\"783\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/ugly-nats-shirt.jpg\" alt=\"An add for two Hawaiian shirts on Facebook. The other, a jungle-ish Cubs shirt of retro logos.\" class=\"wp-image-34325\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Don&#8217;t miss out,&#8221; the ads say.  Oh, I can totally miss these, thanks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nationals shirt looks like a 1950s bowling shirt, but the cartoon image of a Nationals player is a mirror image.  Everything is backwards&#8211;the logos, the jersey as a whole, everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cubs shirt&#8230; I have no comment on that.
