Some random photos from a week of holiday travelling. As I write this, I’m in Lynchburg, Virginia, as my dad had a doctor’s appointment this morning, and he needed someone to take him.<\/p>\n

We had a minor disagreement over when my mom died<\/a>. It was last Sunday. He told someone at the office it was Tuesday. In the grand scheme of things, not a big deal. I barely know when<\/i> I am, and it was a confusing and strange few days.<\/p>\n

I wrote yesterday a little bit about the trip<\/a> down. Nothing major, just about seeing the barest sliver of the moon just after sunset as I made my way south to Charlottesville.<\/p>\n

I used to go through Charlottesville routinely when going to visit my parents, but the stretch of 29 between Walmart to the 29-250 bypass is just super gross anymore. There was a massive traffic backup to Rio Road as someone was trying to turn into a restaurant in the little stretch of road right before the bypass.<\/p>\n

Saturday evening I attended a “Blue Christmas” service at the Episcopal cathedral in Harrisburg. I’ve gone to Christmas Eve services for about the last decade, but because of travelling this year I don’t think I will, and the “Blue Christmas” service is geared toward people grieving or dealing with losses, so it seemed appropriate.<\/p>\n

St. Stephen’s may be one of the most photographed churches in my collection — it’s directly opposite Harrisburg’s baseball stadium on the Susquehanna, and I’ve walked past it countless times (notably, this time in September<\/a>) — but I’ve never been inside. It felt vintage and smelled old.<\/p>\n

There was a Christmas tree at the back of the sanctuary.<\/p>\n

One of the hymns sung was “In the Bleak Midwinter,” and I started crying during the singing of it.<\/p>\n

Parking in Harrisburg cost me an arm and a leg, though.<\/p>\n

I love taking photos of the “LOVE” sign at the Virginia Welcome Center on Interstate 81 north of Winchester.<\/p>\n

My “scenic route” took me past Dinosaur Land!<\/p>\n

I couldn’t tell you the number of times I’ve been past it on 340, but this was the first time I went past it on the cross road, 522.<\/p>\n

There was an impressively lovely Christmas tree at the cardiology center this morning.<\/p>\n

The last time I was here was not quite a year ago, a few days after Christmas. It was not a good day. Oh, my dad’s appointment went fine. But it was not a good day.<\/p>\n

On the one hand, the WMX window manager for Linux has a super low memory footprint, which is great for a rehabbed Chromebook with 4 gigabytes of ram.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, a Chromebook only has one “mouse” button, and WMX really needs the scroll wheel and two mouse buttons.<\/p>\n
