As I mentioned in a previous post, I saw Revenge of the Sith<\/i> yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Before the film were trailers for Batman Begins<\/i>, a movie that looks like it could be the definitive Batman movie and<\/i> the film to beat this summer, and Fantastic Four<\/i>.<\/p>\n
A caveat. I cannot stand<\/i> the comic. I just don’t get the appeal of the Fantastic Four, and I’ve tried.<\/p>\n
The trailer makes the film look okay. Compared to Batman Begins<\/i>, which delivered chills in its trailer, the Fantastic Four<\/i> film looks merely adequate.<\/p>\n
What struck me about the Fantastic Four<\/i> trailer, though, was the pounding guitar riff in the background. That’s familiar, I thought. I know that, it sounds like Oasis. Ten minutes into Revenge<\/i> and I was sure<\/i>.<\/p>\n
It is<\/i> Oasis. “Fuckin’ in the Bushes,” the first track off Standing on the Shoulder of Giants<\/i>, their fourth album. It’s essentially a three-minute instrumental, pounding guitar and drums, with a sampled voice saying over and over, “Kids are running around naked, fucking in the bushes.”<\/p>\n
I wonder at the subliminal message being sent here. Is the studio trying to suggest a nudist sex romp? Maybe I’ll have to reevaluate Fantastic Four<\/i> on those merits–Jessica Alba in tight spandex is one thing, but Jessica Alba in a nudist sex romp is something else entirely.<\/p>\n
The reality, of course, is that the studio (and I’m not sure who’s responsible for Fantastic Four<\/i>) wanted an up-tempo guitar riff in the background, and “Fuckin’ in the Bushes” is definitely that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
