{"id":533,"date":"2005-08-23T07:41:11","date_gmt":"2005-08-23T12:41:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.net\/?p=533"},"modified":"2005-08-23T07:41:11","modified_gmt":"2005-08-23T12:41:11","slug":"on-klingon-fairy-tales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/?p=533","title":{"rendered":"On Klingon Fairy Tales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Once upon a time the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kli.org\/\">Klingon Language Institute<\/a> translated Shakespeare&#8217;s Hamlet back into its &#8220;original Klingon.&#8221;  Likewise Much Ado About Nothing and the Epic of Gilgamesh.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve sometimes wondered about Winnie-the-Pooh, Klingon Warrior.<\/p>\n<p>Now, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcsweeneys.net\/links\/lists\/22MikeRichardson-Bryan.html\">Klingon Fairy Tales.<\/a>  Not translations into the Warriors&#8217; Tongue, but titles of fairy tales that would appeal to the bumpy heads from Qo&#8217;noS.<\/p>\n<p>I kinda like this one: &#8220;Little Red Riding Hood Strays Into the Neutral Zone and Is Never Heard From Again, Although There Are Rumors &#8230; Awful, Awful Rumors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of the Klingon Hamlet, a strange brainwave I had a few months ago.<\/p>\n<p>Somewhere, somehow there&#8217;s a film version of Hamlet that&#8217;s fallen into the public domain.  It&#8217;s inevitable.  It might not be very good, it might be done in Serbo-Croatian.  But it would be public domain.<\/p>\n<p>If there were such a beast, wouldn&#8217;t it be cool if the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kli.org\/\">KLI<\/a> redid the dialogue tracks in Klingon?
