Like many people, I&#8217;ve never finished <i>Ulysses<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/allyngibson\/status\/70268001315848192\">I tweeted last night about the book&#8217;s arrival<\/a>, and in the hours that followed I picked up two new Twitter followers.<\/p>\n<p>One, <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/11ysses\">11ysses<\/a>, intends, as <a href=\"http:\/\/11ysses.wordpress.com\/\">explained on their website<\/a>, to tweet <i>Ulysses<\/i> on June 16th (a significant date because it is Bloomsday), not in a literal sense but <a href=\"http:\/\/11ysses.wordpress.com\/2011\/01\/23\/96-brave-true-needed-to-tweet-ulysses\/\">as <i>Ulysses<\/i> would be <i>experienced<\/i> on Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/draftsauronpac.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/05\/rejoyce-podcast.jpg\" width=\"318\" height=\"317\" align=\"right\" class=\"alignleft\" alt=\"Frank Delaney's re:Joyce podcast\" \/>The other Twitter follower I picked up was the novelist <a href=\"http:\/\/frankdelaney.com\/\">Frank Delaney<\/a>.  I read Delaney&#8217;s novel <i>Ireland<\/i>, not long after I bought my Beetle come to think of it, when I still lived in North Carolina, and I remember liking it quite a bit.  Delaney has a podcast series on <i>Ulysses<\/i>, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.frankdelaney.com\/re-joyce\/\">Re:Joyce<\/a>,&#8221; and at work this afternoon I listened to <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.frankdelaney.com\/2010\/06\/re-joyce-episode-0-introduction-to-james-joyces-ulysses.html\">the introductory episode<\/a>.  I added <a href=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/libsyn\/sQtR\">the podcast&#8217;s RSS feed<\/a> to my RSS reader, and it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/frank-delaneys-re-joyce\/id377763645\">also available through iTunes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thus armed &mdash; a new copy of the book and a podcast, too &mdash; I&#8217;m ready for <i>Ulysses<\/i>.  It will be in my bag, and I will read it on the morning and evening train.<\/p>\n<p>As I said, I&#8217;ve started and not-finished <i>Ulysses<\/i> before.  I can&#8217;t guarantee I&#8217;ll finish it <i>this<\/i> time, either.<\/p>\n<p>But Bloomsday is in less than a month, and I&#8217;m bloody well going to try. :cheers:<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday, a package arrived in the mail.
