{"id":773,"date":"2006-05-31T06:37:28","date_gmt":"2006-05-31T11:37:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.net\/?p=773"},"modified":"2006-05-31T06:37:28","modified_gmt":"2006-05-31T11:37:28","slug":"on-the-return-of-blade-runner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.allyngibson.com\/?p=773","title":{"rendered":"On the Return of Blade Runner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week Warners announced their plans for the upcoming rerelease of the <i>Blade Runner<\/i> &#8220;Director&#8217;s Cut&#8221; and the release of the &#8220;Final Cut,&#8221; both theatrically and on DVD.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theregister.co.uk\/2006\/05\/31\/bladerunner_final_cut\/\"><i>Blade Runner<\/i><\/a> will see the &#8220;Director&#8217;s Cut&#8221; cleaned up and reformated for the DVD format, and then the &#8220;Final Cut&#8221; will present director Ridley Scott&#8217;s true Director&#8217;s Cut.  (The 1992 &#8220;Director&#8217;s Cut&#8221; wasn&#8217;t actually a director&#8217;s cut&#8211;film buffs had discovered Scott&#8217;s workprint, <i>sans<\/i> Harrison Ford&#8217;s narration and Vangelis&#8217; score, and Warners tweaked it a little bit, adding the unicorn scene, to market it as a &#8220;Director&#8217;s Cut.&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>For this fan the exciting news is the release of the domestic and international theatrical cuts as part of the four-disc DVD set.  Many fans hate the Harrison Ford narration in these original versions, while I think it lends a certain film noir charm to <i>Blade Runner<\/i>.
