Posted at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/news\/movienews.php?id=16424\">ComingSoon.net<\/a>, quoting a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.variety.com\/article\/VR1117949787?categoryid=13&#038;cs=1\">Variety<\/a> article:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Over the next few years, MGM is planning to release half a dozen films, some in the $150 million to $200 million-plus range. Studio is ready to unveil such high-profile projects as &#8220;Terminator 4&#8221;; one or two installments of &#8220;The Hobbit,&#8221; which Sloan hopes will be directed by Peter Jackson; and a sequel to &#8220;The Thomas Crown Affair&#8221; with Pierce Brosnan.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The <i>Thomas Crown<\/i> sequel has been talked about by Brosnan for a few years, though I wonder why we need another <i>Terminator<\/i> film.  The big news there, of course, is <i>The Hobbit<\/i>.  Could it be true, that the legal morass of the rights has been sorted?  ComingSoon goes on to say:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Hobbit (film or films) will be produced in partnership with New Line.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ideally, one three hour film, three hours twenty minutes max.  No two-part nonsense.  If the animated <i>Hobbit<\/i> can get by on less then ninety minutes, a live-action <i>Hobbit<\/i> should be able to manage comfortably at twice (or slightly more than twice) the length. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>And Peter Jackson <i>must<\/i> direct.  No other choice.
