House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi unveiled a plan that she would like to enact if the Democrats can take control of the House in this November’s mid-term elections. From the Washington Post<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Franklin Roosevelt had his first hundred days.<\/p>\n

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi is thinking 100 hours, time enough, she says, to begin to “drain the swamp” after more than a decade of Republican rule.<\/p>\n

As in the first 100 hours the House meets after Democrats–in her fondest wish–win control in the Nov. 7 midterm elections and Pelosi takes the gavel as the first Madam Speaker in history.<\/p>\n

Day One: Put new rules in place to “break the link between lobbyists and legislation.”<\/p>\n

Day Two: Enact all the recommendations made by the commission that investigated the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.<\/p>\n

Time remaining until 100 hours: Raise the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour, maybe in one step. Cut the interest rate on student loans in half. Allow the government to negotiate directly with the pharmaceutical companies for lower drug prices for Medicare patients.<\/p>\n

Broaden the types of stem cell research allowed with federal funds–“I hope with a veto-proof majority,” she added in an Associated Press interview Thursday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Among her other ideas. Roll back the Bush tax-cuts–“She mentioned annual incomes of $250,000 or $300,000 a year and higher, and said tax rates for those individuals might revert to those of the Clinton era.” Pay down the deficit.<\/p>\n

These are good ideas. These are common sense ideas that would resonnate with the vast majority of Americans–Putting the fiscal house into order, helping people pay for college and earn a better wage, take strengthening America’s security seriously. Common sense ideas.<\/p>\n

Can the Democrats win on these ideas? If they can get them out and into the marketplace of ideas, I think they can. If they can make a message–a positive<\/i> message–out of this platform and get it talked about, what do the Republicans have to counter it?<\/p>\n
