On 2009’s Goals

A number of my friends have posted on their blogs their writing goals for the coming year. A sensible thing, that — it lends itself to measurement and accountability. 🙂

Last year, I set a goal — “In 2007 I earned more from writing than I did in 2006. My goal for 2008 is to earn more than 2007” — only, that didn’t happen, to the tune of a few hundred dollars.

My writing goals for 2009, then.

  1. One short story a month.
  2. One original novel written.

I know, that doesn’t sound like much. However, I have pots on burners. This weekend, for instance, I’ve blocked out to write a good chunk of a magazine article that’s due soon-ish. So even though I may not have planned to write certain things, or I write things that fall outside those two big, huge, whopping categories above, it doesn’t mean no words on paper. The goals above still matter, they are still goals, and they will be met. 🙂

And we’ll be revisiting these throughout the year.

I know, I’m coming to it late, but welcome to 2009, all!
