On a Different Look

After vowing that I would not redesign my website, I’ve gone and redesigned my website.

More, after never having paid for a theme — because there’s a veritable wealth of free WordPress themes out there — I bought a premium theme.

Well, technically, I joined the Elegant Themes theme club, which gave me access to something like twenty different themes, all for twenty dollars.

I’m not sure, really, what prompted the recent change of heart. It could be the pulled muscle in my neck, which kept me from sleeping last night. It could be the stomach cramps I’ve had since yesterday, which has made me a little unhappy.

Or, it could be that I just wanted something that looked a little more polished, if a little grungy.

I’ve been sorely tempted to try something magazine-like.

I had some trouble with the sidebar and footer widgets. I’m still not entirely happy with them.

But this will do for the time being.

I need to do some more work under the hood, like create some custom page templates and write a print stylesheet. I also need to work on the single post template; I want to add the social networking bar that I picked up back in May.

Otherwise, I think this works.

For now, I say ominously. πŸ˜‰

  1. Haha. I know the feeling, but I’m still holding out any kind of redesign for a while; the last redesign took too much out of me.

But I really like this look; the colors are warm and very inviting, and evoke a cafe / reading and writing vibe. Only issue is that the calendar days look all wonky; days spilled out into the right margin and not staying in the sidebar.

Of course, you’ll be changing it soon enough anyway. πŸ˜‰

  2. I’m not sure why the calendar does that. It formats properly in Opera, but Firefox puts it off to the side. Hmm.

Oooh, and the CSS3 font descriptors work. πŸ™‚ I couldn’t tell at home, because I had the fonts installed on my system, so I had to see if I had the coding right to install a custom font for the headers. Now that I know I have the font properties right, I can go crazy!
