On Batman Haiku

Today was Batman haiku day on Twitter.

Don’t ask me why. I don’t know how these things get started. I wouldn’t have even known about Batman haiku were it not for Julio Angel Ortiz.

I wrote a few Batman haikus, and I posted them to Twitter, and then I wrote a few more that I didn’t post. I am not a poet, I’ve not written a poem in a year, and I don’t think my poetry is anything spectacular. But, for the sake of completeness, I offer to you, my readers, my Batman haikus.

Plans and counterplans,
Batman thinks of ev’rything;
Victory at hand.

Gunpowder, ozone —
Death’s scent lingers in still air.
Batman will solve this.

Penguin’s latest plot?
Gotham torn asunder;
The Dark Knight cries out!

He watches her fall,
Lithe as her totem feline —
A rooftop escape.

Good soldier — Jason.
And another — Stephanie.
Casualties of war.

The dark of this night,
Broken by the Bat Signal above —
Batman hunts once more!

As I said, I’m not a poet. I’m not sure if any of these actually work. Still, they were twenty minutes of fun — a sheet of notebook paper, scribbles, red ink, the whole shebang. Can’t really complain about that. 😉

If you like this sort of thing, be sure to look at SamuraiFrog’s Godzilla Haiku, which is even illustrated.
