You know your cult-following television series has become mainstream when it becomes an early release in the Sony PSP’s special UMD-format disc.
UMDs carry a region-coding, just like DVDs, so the likelihood is that the Doctor Who UMDs wouldn’t work on PSP systems sold in the United States. Which is a shame. Americans need their Doctor Who fix, same as any other cult sci-fi junkie.
Still, there’s something telling about seeing Doctor Who on the PSP. Of all the cult sci-fi shows that could make the leap, the good Doctor had to be first. He always was a rebel. 😉
