On Guest-Blogging About Tennyson

While blogging here has gone from a nearly-daily thing to a twice-a-week thing (if I’m lucky — life’s become an endless deadline), today saw the publication of a guest blog post I wrote for Stuart Ian Burns, a blogger in Liverpool.

Stuart asked me to ponder the two most quoted lines of Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s “In Memorium, A.A.H.” — “Tis better to have loved and lost / Than never to have loved at all.” I did, though maybe not in the way that Stuart envisioned when he made the request. I was honored to be asked to participate in his year-end review, and you can read my thoughts on what those lines mean here.

I should state, by the way, that Stuart’s blog is one that I enjoy reading. He was one of my favorite bloggers at “Behind the Sofa,” a Doctor Who review blog, and on his personal blog he covers a range of topic from Who to film to Shakespeare to British politics to the appeal of Zooey Deschanel. His writing is crisp, well-thought-out, and always done with some style.

Thanks, Stuart!
