On Late Night Snacks

In my early twenties, I discovered the joys of consuming food late at night. I thought nothing of going to Barnes & Noble at ten o’clock at night, ordering something heavily caffeinated, consuming it, then crashing an hour and a half later. Or of making a run to Taco Bell at 1:30 in the morning because I really needed a Gordita combo.

I discovered, about the time I turned thirty, that I just couldn’t do that any more.

Caffeine after about seven makes it impossible for me to sleep.

Taco Bell, under virtually any circumstance, sets my stomach on edge for a day and a half. (Antacid tablets after and before seem to keep the worst excesses of Taco Bell at bay.)

But what if I really do need a late night snack? What if peckishness overtakes me in the still hours of the night?

Stauffer’s Animal Crackers.

They’re lightweight. They’re tasty. No caffiene. And to the stomach they’re inoffensive.

And apple juice. If I need something to drink, late at night? Apple juice all the way. 🙂

No, it’s not the most interesting late night snack. But it does for me, and that’s all that really matters. 😉
