On Rejection

Out of two hundred-plus resumes I’ve submitted, I have received all of two formal rejections. The vast majority of resumes and cover letters, unfortunately, go unanswered.

The second rejection letter came today.

I’d applied six weeks ago for a position with Daedalus Books to manage their outlet store in Columbia, Maryland. Though I wasn’t anxious to return to the retail world, it had two advantages — first, it would be more interesting (and intellectually stimulating) than what I’m doing now; and second, it was closer to home. So I thought I’d at least submit my resume and see what happened. After all, seven years of retail management under the belt would be applicable?

The rejection letter came today. It wasn’t signed.

I never even got a call for an interview.

No worries, though. Something’ll shake off the tree. 🙂
