On Remembering John Lennon

Doubtless today radio stations around the world will play “Imagine” in rapid repeats throughout the day as we remember John Lennon who was killed in New York twenty-five years ago today.

I’d like to remember John by listening to one of his lesser-known songs, “#9 Dream,” from his 1974 album Walls and Bridges

So long ago
Was it in a dream, was it just a dream?
I know, yes I know
Seemed so very real, it seemed so real to me

Took a walk down the street
Thru the heat whispered trees
I thought I could hear (hear, hear, hear)
Somebody call out my name as it started to rain

Two spirits dancing so strange

Ah! böwakawa poussè, poussè
Ah! böwakawa poussè, poussè
Ah! böwakawa poussè, poussè

Dream, dream away
Magic in the air, was magic in the air?
I believe, yes I believe
More I cannot say, what more can I say?

On a river of sound
Thru the mirror go round, round
I thought I could feel (feel, feel, feel)
Music touching my soul, something warm, sudden cold
The spirit dance was unfolding

Ah! böwakawa poussè, poussè
Ah! böwakawa poussè, poussè
Ah! böwakawa poussè, poussè

Ah! böwakawa poussè, poussè
Ah! böwakawa poussè, poussè
Ah! böwakawa poussè, poussè
Ah! böwakawa poussè, poussè
Ah! böwakawa poussè, poussè
Ah! böwakawa poussè, poussè
Ah! böwakawa poussè, poussè
Ah! böwakawa poussè, poussè

John Winston Ono Lennon. 1940-1980. We all shine on.

  1. It’s a very good song, but an easy one to forget about. (Not one of his flashier ones.)

Lennon inspired me to start writing music, many years ago. This is always a depressing time of year, to think about what we’ve lost.

  2. this song was like a prediction of his death…
it’s so beautiful, yet so haunting…

    i wish i could’ve met you, john.
but i was born too late.

    R.I.P John
    1940-1980
