On The Pacifier

There wasn’t anything on television this afternoon, so flipping through channels I found The Pacifier, the comedy starring Vin Diesel about a Navy SEAL assigned to babysit and bodyguard a family.

I remember seeing a trailer for it, and I remember thinking to myself what had happened to Vin Diesel that he would do a feel-good comedy like this.

But it was Christmas Eve, and there wasn’t anything else to watch, so I sat down and watched The Pacifier.

Y’know, it’s not a film that’s going to change your life. It’s not a film that’s going to reveal secret Gnostic thought on the nature of the universe. It will, however, keep you entertained for an hour and a half.

I enjoyed it. I laughed. The disconnect between Diesel’s military training and the needs of parenting these five children was where the comedy derived. Seeing him adapt to them, seeing them adapt to him–that’s where the heart of the film was, and seeing the kids grow from the experience was what made it worthwhile. Also, seeing Brad Garrett get schooled as the wrestling coach. 🙂

So, yeah, I watched The Pacifier, and I liked it. Who’d have thunk it?
