On Thinking About Summer Movies

I mentioned a few days ago the comic book films I was looking forward to this summer. To recap, from top to bottom:

  • The Dark Knight
  • Hellboy II: The Golden Army
  • Iron Man
  • The Incredible Hulk

It’s a bit of a misnomer, actually, to suggest that I’m looking forward to The Incredible Hulk. I’m quite ambivalent about it, and have no real feelings for it positively or negatively. It’s simply… there.

I realized on the drive into work this morning — a long slog through drizzle and stupid drivers — that there are other movies this summer. Movies that I am looking forward to, even though I’d completely forgotten them.

Movies like Prince Caspian. And Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

I can understand how I forgot the former — it’s sneaking up on us in mid-May. I downloaded the trailer for it. Watched the trailer a dozen times easily. Got really excited when the trebuchets unload. And then forgot about it. I should probably reread the book, while it’s on my mind.

But Indy? How could I forget that? Especially when I just bought — and ranted about — the Indiana Jones Mint Crisp M&Ms!

Indiana Jones, by the way, needs to earn $400-plus million for Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and Harrison Ford to get paid. (The article is unfortunately vague on the revenue streams that build toward that $400 million dollar mark. If DVD sales are included, it’s in the bag.)

So there’s at least four movies I want to see this summer — Prince Caspian, Indiana Jones, Hellboy II, Dark Knight.

If only ticket prices weren’t so egregious. :/

It’s going to be an awesome summer for movies.

I’m excited. 🙂

  1. Indiana Jones is the only one of those I care about (by dint of my having not watched the previous movies in those other franchises—though I do want to at least Netflix Lion…, if not the other two). And even then, I’m more interested in WALL-E. Pixar FTW. 🙂
