In light of editor Margaret Clark’s firing at Pocket Books earlier this week, my friend Jon Polk mused on the state of Star Trek literature today.
Jon’s is a contrarian viewpoint, and, as one might assume from my recent participation in an round-table discussion about the new Star Trek film and its effects on Treklit, I don’t entirely disagree with Jon’s conclusions.
It’s too early to say what effect Margaret’s departure will have on Star Trek fiction. It will continue into 2010 and beyond, of that there’s no doubt. The question is one of paths to follow, and we won’t know that for many months to come.
That said, I am sorry that Margaret lost her job. She’s been involved with Star Trek for a very long time. Here’s hoping she lands on her feet.
