On a PlayStation 2 Problem

I have a slim-line PlayStation 2. The original model of the PlayStation 2, released in 2000, was supplanted with a newer, smaller, slimmer model in the fall of 2004, and I traded my old, clunky, big system in toward the small system when it released.

Now, Sony has issued a recall on the slim PS2 power adapter.

I’m not surprised. Reason? The slim PlayStation 2 gets hot. I mean, really hot. Everything is so compact–system, AC supply–and it runs hot. I don’t know how well Sony anticipated this–I suppose they didn’t.

So, a PSA for all of you PlayStation 2 fans out there. You may need to replace your power supply.

Joy. Of course, our PS2 gets almost no playtime—I hate the controller, so I only play when I really have an RPG urge that Bioware games can’t satisfy, and my sisters are too busy with homework to play DDR—so I don’t think ours is at much risk. 😉

I hope that Nintendo certainly keeps this in mind in their Revolution design, though, especially since their goal is to make it as small as possible….
