It’s been a quiet Christmas in Lake Wobegon, my hometown.
Wait, that’s not right.
It’s been a quiet Christmas. Slept late. Opened presents well past noon. Ate some cookies. Drank some nog.
What did I get?
- A Fossil watch. Despite the tag saying that I can adjust the links myself, I can’t get the damned pin out.
- Juggling balls.
- One of those water-filled baseball toys, where you pump the button and it does things.
- A portable DVD player.
- The LEGO Viking chess set.
My grandmother took forever to open her presents. Partly she kept forgetting that she had presents to open, but mostly it was that she was trying to be delicate with the paper, not wanting to rip it. So I did my best Robin Williams impression and said loudly (and repeatedly), “Rip! Rip! I don’t hear ripping!” She eventually got the idea.
All in all, it was a quiet, low stress Christmas.
And bugger it all, I wanted to see The Children of Men today, but it’s only in a limited release, and I’m not driving to Georgetown just to see a movie. I don’t care what MapQuest says — thirty-five miles to DC isn’t going to be a little jaunt. That said, I haven’t seen Casino Royale yet, so perhaps I’ll go see that instead this evening.
