On Why I Hate Fox Sports

Earth to Fox Sports:

Does anyone really want to spend their afternoons watching a Yankees/Red Sox game? Especially when neither team is in first place in their division? Especially when one of those teams is pretty fucking woeful?

I’d much rather watch the Cubs/Cardinals game. Not just because it’s the Cubs, but because there are two teams over .500 playing in that game.

And also, it doesn’t have Joe Buck and Tim McCarver in the broadcast booth.

Fox Sports, there are other baseball teams in the country besides the ones in the Boston and New York metropolitan areas.

Just thought you should know.

  1. Hey Allyn,

While I respect your plight, when you say “does anyone really want to spend their afternoon watching a Yankees/Red Sox game,” I have to assume that you’re either being sarcastic or are inebriated. Possibly both.

It’s no great secret that there are three teams in MLB that inspire passion not just in their home cities but across the nation. Those teams are the Red Sox, Yankees and your Cubs. Fact: the Red Sox spur the highest attendance in away games out of any team in MLB (see: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/al/redsox/2007-08-22-Roadattendance_N.htm). Fact: the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry is nearly always listed among the great sports rivalries of all time. Fact: last week on his ESPN radio show host Colin Cowherd responded to a caller who asked why ESPN and other networks insist on showing Red Sox games more than any other. Colin’s response? “People like to watch the Red Sox, and while there are other teams out there, they’re the ones that draw the biggest ratings and we are, after all, a business.”

  2. I know, I know, I know.

I was just bitter. I kept hoping that there would be a rain delay, and the Cubs/Cards game would go out on the national feed. And then there wasn’t a rain delay, and trying to follow the game online, especially Kerry Wood’s ninth inning meltdown, was nigh impossible.

    I was just bitter.
